DKS Music\/BAM Finland<\/p>\n
Finnish band ANCARA has lots of eighties touch, not least the pedigree of the musicians. The band debuted in 2008 with \u201cThe Dawn\u201d, followed by an EP, \u201cThe World\u201d, which reached the top ten singles chart in Finland. Second attempt, \u201cBeyond the Dark\u201d was yet again a native hit in 2007, and now we get a third album, somewhat belated album. <\/p>\n
The un-eighties sound of \u201cWe Paint December\u201d fills my head. The chorus is big enough but there is no clear decade bound sound, as promised. The slight hit feeling of \u201cFar from Grace\u201d is not bad either, but\u2026 There is an overuse of pop\/rock in some tracks and the feeling of fillers sometimes appears, as in the closing track \u201cFarewell\u201d and the somewhat off \u201cNicole\u201d. The eighties flow in songs like \u201cLodestar\u201d (KISS-like riff), the hair band balladry of \u201cTears with a Smile\u201d and the slight MAGNUM vibe of \u201cNot Quite Sober\u201d. I wish that most tracks had been mixes of ANCARA and various 80\u00b4s hard rock celebrities. But the mix of rather hit like and quite off can only render an average grade.<\/p>\n
