Festivalphoto: You last played the UK in 2004 – why the long seven year wait for you to come back? The Quill: (laughing) that’s a good question, we dont know. We did some shows in Sweden, Holland and Germany then the record company – we broke up with them, then we broke up with the…
After a long wait, the new Nightwish album is finally here. The bands fans have been speculating for months about the album and posting links to ”leaked tracks” (inevitably fakes) and excitement has built to such a level that surely the album cannot live up to the level of expectation. Well, after listening to the…
Venom are legends of extreme metal – their second album (Black Metal) gave its name to an entire genre of music, and black metal bands still sing about the same subjects as Venom were doing 20 years ago – the devil, burning churches and so on. Perhaps because of their reputation as an extreme band,…

Despite the similarity of the name to the famous movie star, James Deane is actually a talented singer-songwriter from the UK. Festivalphoto: You’re famous for your energetic live shows which are great fun to watch as you climb onto speakers (or anything else convenient) or throw yourself into the crowd. Do you ever get injured doing this? Michael: Oh yeah, a…
This mini-album features seven cover versions plus a couple of acoustic versions of songs from Houston’s debut album. The CD inlay seems to imply that its a 7 song mini album with two ”bonus” tracks as the acoustic songs are credited separately which seems kind of pointless to be honest, but it’s not a big…
This is the special edition of Amaranthe’s debut album, released several months after the original release of the album. So what’s the difference between this and the standard edition? Well for a start there are two extra songs on this version, and secondly there is a DVD included with music videos, behind the scenes footage…

The night opened with sets from Toxic Federation and Rough Cut. Both were very good, but Rough Cut impressed particularly, partly because for a band that looked too young to be out late on a school night, they performed very well, and their singer in particular was very impressive. The only weak link was the…
