Like Slash, Michael Schenker has played with several bands and also chooses to play a range of material, including songs from The Scorpions (Rock you like a hurricane & Another piece of meat) and UFO (Rock Bottom & Doctor Doctor). For his set at High Voltage Michael Schenker has brought a few guests with him….
Kicking off with ”Living in the past” I was impressed by the sound – it was the clearest sound I’d heard all weekend. Either the prog stage had better sound than the other two stages all weekend or they’d got it right for Jethro Tull, but either way this was great news. ”Living in the…
Black Country Communion are a fairly new group, but are a ”supergroup”- Joe Bonamassa, Glenn Hughes, Jason Bonham & Derek Sherinian. This is a band that has a lot ot live up to based on the careers of the individual members. As a new band they’re at a disadvantage to bands like Thunder or Thin…
OK lets start off with the problem and get it out of the way….the sound volume was far too low. Its been said for every other band, but its especially true for Judas Priest even if they do seem a bit louder than the earlier bands. Judas Priest play music best listened to at face-meltingly…
A few years ago, Thin Lizzy weren’t at the top of their game. The new lineup however, with Ricky Warwick as their frontman is back on form and today they make things look easy as they put in an excellent performance packed with classic hits including ”Jailbreak”, ”Whiskey in the jar”, ”The Boys are back…
On Saturday evening after Thin Lizzy it was the turn of the guitar legend that is Slash ! This is the man who just over 12 months ago pulled in a crowd at Download for his early afternoon slot that rivalled any of the headliners crowds. Today the crowd is far smaller – a decent…
Michael Monroe opened this years High Voltage festival in nice sunshine (something we didnt see much of for the rest of the day). Despite being the first band on and it still being early he managed to attract a sizeable crowd. As always Michael put in a highly athletic performance, running around the stage and…
Shortly after 2pm the silence around the Metal Hammer stage was broken by the sound of roaring motorbike engines – yes it was the intro tape for Scottish Rockers, Attica Rage. They’d drawn a decent size crowd even before they hit stage, and managed to pull a bigger crowd in the end than most of…
”Handful of dreams” is the superb debut album from London band Slam Cartel. The band can count Billy Morrison, Bass player for The Cult (and guitarist with Billy Idol) as one of their fans – and that’s a man who really knows about what makes good rock music. A few comments on some of the…
”Rarities & Reacharounds” is a limited edition EP from The Erotics, which consists of six previously unreleased tracks recorded between 1996 and 2001. The EP is on a Vinyl effect CD, in a plain black sleeve & a gatefold inlay with track details, giving it a very retro feel. The EP is limited to 100…
”Symmetry in motion” is the second album from Swedish AOR band Elevener. Their first album, ”When kaleidoscopes collide” was released in 2008 and brought the band a lot of well deserved praise. For the first album, Elevener was really just a two piece, with Johan Bergquist covering vocals, keyboards and bass, and Anton Roos handling…
”Between the devil and the deep blue sea” is the third album from US rockers Black Stone Cherry. Their brand of Southern rock has been growing rapidly in popularity since they released their debut album back in 2007, and 2011 see’s them touring the UK with Alter Bridge and playing the Hard Rock Hell festival…
