Melbourne Soundwave had been inked in to my mental calendar for almost a year. The excitement brewed as I pulled myself from the comfort of bed and into the shower, fighting a hangover from the previous night’s exploits. I hit the ground running, trying to make it to the festival in time for one of my fave bands Steel Panther.

Despite the long queues to get in to the venue, and early start times for the bands I actually made it in time to catch some of their set. Between the high Kicks, hair flicks and amazing stand-up comedy they had the crowd jumping. They played songs from both “Feel the steel” and their latest album “Balls out”. Prick kl.21 så drar introt till Patient Zero igång. KB är infekterat av HammerFall-sjukan!

HammerFalls nya fläskiga ljudbil slår rakt mot en som en taskig käftsmäll. Ljudet är rent och tydligt. Cans sång hörs riktigt bra och är väl mixad med instrumenten. HammerFall är ute på en intensiv klubb-turné för att komma sina fans riktigt nära. Det finns inget kravallstaket och det blir en fantastisk känsla av gemenskap mellan band och publik.

Det är en fröjd för ögat att se Anders jonglera med trumpinnarna och gitarristen Pontus Norgren gå fram till scenkanten och dra ett solo och får det att se hur enkelt ut som helst då han ser helt avslappnad ut. Oscar står som en mindre virveltornado i sin läderrock medans Fredrik Larsson står bredbent och piskar skiten ur sin bas...

German electro metal band, Cold Rush are due to release their second album ‘AmoKKoma’ later this year. Their first album, ‘The Illness’ was released in 2009 and since then the band has undergone a change in line up including recruiting a new front man Matthias Kupka. With this new album, the band promise that their sound will be harder, more melodic and catchy .

To give fans an idea of what to expect, Cold Rush are releasing a two track CD single – Disclosing the vicious seeds.

”Daily crime” begins with a speech being played back over some synthesiser before the vocals kick in. The music is melodic electronic music – heavy on the synth/keyboards, but this is balanced with some very heavy metal vocals...

Pray For Locust
Unga, heta och skickliga!

Jag hade inga större förväntningar på Stockholmsgrabbarna i Pray For Locust. Lite Myspace och Youtube, så jag hade en liten aning om vad det var jag skulle se. Bandet klev in på scenen i Studion och drog igång ett grymt ös. Dubbla kaggar och en tight basgång samt ylande metalgitarrer. En tung growl av sångaren Tintin Andersson och man hörde att han även kan sjunga. Jag gillar verkligen det här, nackdelen är bara att man inte hör texterna när det growlas. Tur att det finns Spotify så att man kan lyssna och njuta i lugn och ro också!

Låten ”Hang a traitor” drar igång där gensvaret inte låter vänta på sig och publiken kryper närmare. Efter det blir vi riktigt manglade med ”Let them bleed” och farten ökar rejält...

House of metal 2012
Vilken comeback och dundersuccé!

Festivalen utvecklas från år till år. Drivna och erfarna festivalmänniskor som vet vad de ska göra. Organisationen lärde sig av förra årets debacle! Trots stora namn som ”T.N.T”, ”U.D.O” och ”Triptykon” mfl så gick det kräftgång. Visst levererade banden men publiken svek. Det var egentligen bara ”Ghost” och ”U.D.O” som drog storpublik på sina respektive scener.

Jag var lite skeptisk till årets line up men de som jobbar med festivalen visste vad de gjorde. ”Immortal” och ”Amon Amarth” var de stora dragplåstren. Support kom från bla ”Nocturnal Rites”, ”Amaranthe” och ”Entombed”. Alla banden fyllde golvet och stolarna framför den stora scenen i Idun. Jag såg delar av allt och det blev stor succé...

Utsåld premiär på The Tivoli =Bäddat för fest

Turnépremiär i Helsingborg för Mustasch med deras nya Sounds Like Hell, Looks Like Heaven. The Tivoli hade förärats detta kungliga besök från Göteborg. Nu med en helsingborgare bakom batteriet – Jejo Perkovic, som (tillfälligt?) ersatt avhoppande Danne McKenzie.

Premiären med sitt nya band på ”hemmaplan” började lite skakigt, för hela bandet. Första två låtarna Speed Metal och The Challenger kändes Mustasch trötta och oengagerade men det vände när de pressade ut Never Too Late. En riktigt skön låt med både bra text och musik. Ljudbilden är aningen fläskigare än tidigare.

De har en egen ljusrigg med sig och har stora ljusväggar som tar ordentligt med plats på scenen och gör att pågarna på scenen blir fastlimm...

Persuader 15 år!
Ett av Umeås stora metalband gjorde sitt första framträdande sen House of metal 2010.

Första skivan ”The Hunter” som ansågs vara bästa nykomling år 2000. ”Evolution purgatory” släpptes 2004 men fick inte samma genomslag. Det är snart sex år sen de släppte senaste skivan ”When eden burns”. Enligt mig den klart bästa skivan som fick strålande recensioner. På grund av många olika omständigheter så lyckades aldrig bandet få till det. Sångaren Jens Karlsson anses av många som en av de bästa med sin trashigt grymma röst. Dark Empire och Savage Circus är två andra band där hans stämma kan höras.

Getting familiar with Besty 2011:
Iiinside were back again to enjoy one of the best UK festivals, and this year with a whole eclectic mix of acts to chose from, ranging from pop, rock, dance, rap and more!

Bestival is an award winning 3 day boutique music festival set at Robin Hill in the heart of the Isle of Wight.

The wonderful world of Bestival was born out of ten fun years of pioneering music events and record releases from Rob da Bank’s Sunday Best empire. The BBC Radio 1 leftfield DJ had a dream to one day create his vision of how the modern day festival should be. Along with Creative Director and wife Josie da Bank and co founders / partners John and Ziggy from Get Involved that dream is now fulfilled...

Pythia opened the nights entertainment by skipping their usual intro tape and going straight into some fast heavy metal. By the time they were announced as support for tonights gig, it had long since sold out, so they couldnt rely on a crowd of their own fans to help cheer them on. They clearly weren’t fazed by this, and despite some sound problems early on, were clearly making a good impression with the Dragonforce fans and as the set went on more and more fans were headbanging, and the cheers between songs were getting louder and louder. Tonight’s set from Pythia consisted of four songs from their forthcoming second album as well as two from their debut album...

Camp Best!

This is our fourth year at Camp Bestival and our second experiencing it as a family affair. It is unique in that it is the only major festival that incorporates families without reducing the festival experience or sacrificing fabulous acts. In this way you get a real festival experience while introducing younger members of the family to festivals and camping. It is also won 3 awards – best new festival 2008 and best family festival 2009 and 2010 from the UK Festival Awards.
