Just för tillfället regerar verkligen brittiska Adele. Hennes andra album 21 sköt upp som en raket mot förstaplatsen över hela världen, inklusive Tyskland, England och USA vid releasen i februari. Inte illa marscherat av någon som ingen vanlig dödlig hade någon koll på så sent som för lite mer än tre år sedan. Vad som framförallt är remarkabelt är det faktum att det här inte är en artist som förlitar sig på vare sig hype, trendighet eller en iögonfallande image. Visst, hemmakritikerna har hon haft på sin sida från dag ett, men i stort sett har det här genombrottet handlat om musiken, inget annat.

Ändå har hon slagit så hårt, och i bästa fall har vi i Adele någon som möjligen också får chansen att bygga upp en någon slags vettig albumkarriär även i dessa fragmentar...

Få svenska nykomlingar på senare år har fått så god respons av kritikerkåren som Oskar Humlebo alias Moto Boy. Inte helt oväntat precis. Hans avigt passionerade sånger är så personliga och det tillhörande konstnärliga uttrycket som helhet så pass eget att ingen kollega med trendhatten käckt på svaj skulle få för sig att inte vara positivt inställd. För egen del tycker jag dock ofta sådana här hyllningsörer slår över i något som liknar grava överskattningar, men i det här fallet är det bara att göra tummen upp och stämma in i ryggdunkandet.

För visst är det så att det vilar något väldigt speciellt över Moto Boy. Han är för all del en i viss mån som det så fint heter en “aquired taste”, det han gör är inte för alla...

En ljudmassa tonar initialt ut över det usålda Vega. Det låter ödesmättat och tungt innan rytmerna tar över. Förväntningarna ligger i luften. Sedan står hon bara där i den skumma belysningen och utför någon slags hemmagjord dans som fungerar som intro till smått suggestiva öppningsnumret Jerome.

Det handlar förstås om Lykke Li, Sveriges nya världsstjärna, som hennes skivbolag uttrycker saken. Och visst har det gått snabbt för henne. Redan med två år gamla debuten Youth Novels blev hon såväl kritikerfavorit överallt som indieälskling med cross overappeal. Det sistnämnda märktes inte minst på Vega. I det kvinnligt dominerade folkhavet syntes åtskilliga kids, som såg ut att sukta efter en biljett till Lady Gagas eller Britneys senaste spektakel i vanliga fall.

Support: AUTODAFEH

Sent ska syntarna vakna………..

ElectroBeatMusic är genren som svenska AUTODAFEH vill bli kategoriserade under. Oavsett vilket var det tunga och taktfasta låtar som levererades från tre svartklädda män. Malande låtar med ett fräckt driv gjorde att man rycktes med av musiken. Ett klart intressant band. Från nya plattan ACT OF FAITH fick vi bland annat höra HEAVEN SCREAMS. Och låten STOPMERS som dom avslutade konserten med var något som jag fastnade för.

Tyska DIE KRUPPS fyllde hela scenen med prylar och deras tunga gitarriff och pumpande bas fick mig att tänka på Rammstein. Fast det är nog Rammstein som snott från de här med tanke på att Die Krupps startade för 30 år sen…. Det här var riktigt jäkla bra sväng och melodierna fastnade direkt...

And here we are again in the fourteenth edition of SWR Barroselas Metal Fest, each time bigger and always with better improvements to several levels.
The stage layout remained the same as last year (one main stage, second one and a third smaller one outside the tent), but the background theme was different, if the theme of the last year were witches this year was crawling insects, and as a consequence there was a giant sculpture of a beetle by the artist André Coelho: (http://homemdopacote.wordpress.com/ ) with a huge sculpture of a beetle on the left side of the main stage. This guy did all the artwork for the fest; you should really check it out!
One of the greatest improvements was the screen projections on the right side of Stage 1 regarding the quality of the transmitted image...

First up tonight is Fury UK. The Manchester three-piece take to the stage in front of a a medium but rapidly growing crowd as the doors havent been open for long so many fans are still queuing to get in. Still the crowd they get grows steadily through their set to be almost full capacity before they finish. Fury UK have decorated the set by draping their monitors in Black and white Union Jacks with Fury UK emblazoned on them. The bands performance is excellent – plenty of energy and enthusiasm and its clear they’re enjoying themselves up there on stage rather than just playing. Their music with plenty of guitar riffs really goes down well with the crowd tonight. A great start to the night’s entertainment.

The most awaited night for the last weeks (or may I say years?) arrived. Mayhem finally played in our homeland. The stakes were very high since they’re famous for their past, they would have to exceed the high expectations of the Portuguese fans.

The only opening band in the city of Porto was supposed to be Daemogorgon. Corpus Christii were only opening the show in Lisbon but, according to a source, when Mayhem heard about this, they practically demanded and made everything possible so they could go to Porto and play with them. They succeeded.

Utan varken ord eller ansiktsuttryck startar de kvällens spelning med inledningsspåret på första plattan Souvenirs D’un Autre Monde. Det är en liten skara om 169 besökare i publiken ikväll och stämningen tar sig direkt. Neiges klara, harmlösa röst ackompanjeras av gitarristen Zeros underbara, drömska nynnande. Åh, den fantastiska rösten. Det är så jävla vackert att jag blir tårögd.

Jag har alltid varit så fundersam över det här med att stå med ryggen helt eller halvt vänd mot publiken. Som om musikerna inte vill integrera med oss. Det här gör Alcest ganska mycket, men det är ju också det som är en typisk del av shoegazekonceptet. De är inne i sig själva och det de gör, och det känns faktiskt ganska avslappnande...

Tonight is the final night of the Epica UK tour. Epica havent played in the UK for many years apart from a single performance at last years Hammerfest, so expectations from fans are high. The support for this tour is ReVamp – the new band of former After Forever singer Floor Jansen. Its ReVamp’s first visit to the UK, so for many fans this tour is a chance to see both bands for the first time. The venue has a huge queue outside an hour before the doors open, and its already clear that the venue is going to be packed out.

Revamp start as they mean to go on with pounding drums and powerful heavy guitar chords bursting forth as soon as the band come on stage to plenty of applause...

When band face eye to eye its 30th Anniversary, it cannot be unnoticed. Laibach from Slovenia decided to mark it with special LAIBACH REVISITED tour and upcoming new album, which is going present various songs different versions and new remixes both from early and latest bands albums.

The tour seems to be quite tough, although they are not going to every country in Europe. In Baltic countries there was the only one concert – in capital of Latvia, Riga. The place for this concert was chosen quite interesting – University of Latvia, the great aula. This made show atmosphere even better. In concert was possible to meet not only Latvian but Lithuanian Laibach fans, too.

Concert started a little bit later than it was promised but the rest was made with really high quality...
