Devendra Banhart’s Mala

Devendra Banhart’s smooth and fresh sound is back again on his new release Mala. Following the success of his last album ‘What Will We Be’, ‘Mala’ marks Banhart’s eighth album, recorded in his then hometown of Los Angeles. The album was co-produced with band-mate Noah Georgeson, with the duo playing and recording the instruments on the album themselves, allowing for the more intimate and earthy sound of the album, a sound that has very much become Banhart’s own. The album itself was recorded on a piece found in an old pawn shop, which had been used originally to record hip-hop music. ““And knowing my songs are not hip-hop whatsoever, we thought it would be interesting to see how these kinds of songs would sound on equipment that was used to record our favorite rap...

STRONG UPCOMING NAMES JOIN THE LINE-UP

We announce a group of bands who will kick off this year’s festival.
All of today’s additions will play either Pavilion Junior or Apollo Countdown, the flagships of new Nordic music on Roskilde Festival. These upcoming Nordic bands will play the Pavilion Junior or Apollo Countdown stages during the first four days of the festival, from 30 June till 3 July.

From the heavy end of the spectrum we introduce black metal-hope SOLBRRUD (DK), who like punk band LOWER (DK) and electronica producer REWOLMER (DK) are the shooting stars of the Copenhagen underground. The dark punk will also come from the other side of Oresund by VANLIGT FOLK (SE). Further East we encounter K-X-P (FI) who punk up the sound of mechanic German music of the 70s.

We are also bringing in a bit of Norway...

ANNA LENA & THE ORCHIDS DEBUT EP, OUT MARCH 21ST.

Anna Lena’s haunting vocal style has been described by UK press as ’unique’ and ’ethereal’, and the imagery in her lyrics, especially given it being her second language, shows experience and conviction beyond her years..
Anna Lena has gradually been building her live presence, performing with her Orchids all over the UK and Norway, counting appearances at Slottsfjell and Liverpool Sound City festivals amongst those that have impressed, as well as a recent and hugely successful Norwegian tour.
She draws influences from St.Vincent, Grizzly Bear, Radiohead, PJ Harvey, Bjork and Ane Brun. Whilst similarities can be observed between her and the above acts, a mixture of folk, alternative rock and ambient musical styles create a uniquely dark, organic sound – ultimately one of her own.
Anna Lena ...

Vienna Ditto release EP on 22 April 2013

Recorded in a chilly boat, a dank basement and an old temperance hall, Vienna Ditto’s debut EP, Liar Liar, is a DIY diary of their first, turbulent, two years. Recorded and produced by the band themselves, the tapes were then rescued and mixed by Umair Chaudhry at Silver St Studios. The result is intelligent yet
memorable, spooky but accessible electronica mixed with dirty guitar riffs – or,
as Radio 1’s Huw Stephens puts it, ‘Portishead doing a Tarantino Soundtrack’.
The band – comprising vocalist Hatty Taylor and guitarist Nigel Firth – jerked into life in April 2009 when a hastily-recorded demo from their second rehearsal was played on Huw Stephen’s Radio One show. An appearance on the BBC Introducing
stage at Glastonbury 2009 followed, as did a Maida Vale session for T...

Here Is Your Temple – The debut EP

Here Is Your Temple invite you into their theoretical world of fears, obsessions, love, hate and progress. Acting as distant observers in occupancy of a Universe separate to our own, this debut EP is a veritable brocade of heavy, dreamy, alt-pop that channels the spirits of Nico and Beach House (while paying homage in their own way to the likes of Depeche Mode and Fleetwood Mac) before adding their own layer of sedate gloss. On this debut EP, the Swedish 5 piece (completed by
vocalist Emily McWilliam, guitarist Andreas Hourdakis, drummer Olle Nyman, bassist Ille Borg and Mikael Svensson on keys) look to cinematic works for inspiration.
From the first synth experiments in Tarkovsky’s Stalker, the cut up sound
tracks of Godard to Vangelis’ Blade Runner, Here Is Your Temple value their mus...

JAMES YOUNGER SINGLE RELEASE

James Younger left his home town of Manchester in Britain at the ripe young age
of 21 and headed for the States. He hitchhiked across America, dissecting life in
conversations with all those he came across and scribbling down stories in a
notepad he kept in his breast pocket. These conversations and stories became the
seeds that would grow into his debut album of pop/rock anthems,Feelin’ American –
out on June 25 on Light Organ Records.

Younger’s first single, Monday Morning (the opening track on Feelin’ American) is
out now. Northwest tastemaker station KEXP debuted the track calling it, “A
catchy as hell piece of guitar-pop that is a radio classic like the Cars would write.”
The single is backed with What Comes After The Weekend and both are available
now on iTunes.

Let’s Say We Did – Hello Creatures

Formed in 2008, and after a couple of years lurking on the periphery of Stockholm’s music scene, Let’s Say We Did began to gain momentum with the release of a trilogy of EP’s. In November 2011 the band released their debut, self titled, album produced by Let’s Say We Did and Pelle Gunnerfeldt (The Hives, Fireside, Bear Quartet, Hello Saferide). Upon release, Scandinavian media fell over themselves to shower praise on a still relatively embryonic band, drawing comparisons to the likes of Real Estate, Teenage Fanclub and Pavement. In support of the album, LSWD performed a string of shows around Scandinavia and have opened for, among others, acts like Xiu Xiu, Withered Hand, Ida Maria and Suburban Kids With Biblical Names...
